Calm and Alert is an innovative approach to teaching self regulation and social skills to children by utilizing their bodies, minds, and breath through yoga and mindfulness practices developed by Helene McGlauflin, counselor and yoga teacher.

Since its inception the Calm and Alert program has helped hundreds of children breathe more deeply, move more skillfully and think more positively, drawing from the fields of social emotional learning, self regulation, yoga and mindfulness.

what people are saying

“As a classroom teacher I rely on what my students and I have learned in Calm and Alert class. We revisit the skills and use the strategies whenever we need to get calm, increase focus, practice following directions or make a change in behavior. The chime practice is essential for increasing mindfulness and helps me as a teacher to set the tone and increase student engagement in a positive and predictable way. Calm and Alert is an intentional part of my teaching practice. It helps me stay calm and in tune with my students so we can be happier at school.”
- Sarah, First Grade Teacher

“As a speech/language therapist/ teacher, Calm and Alert has provided a common language to use with my students in order to set clear learning and behavioral expectations. When I say "Get steady, so you can understand my directions," each child knows exactly what to do to get ready to learn. This saves precious moments during our limited instructional time.”
- Karen, Speech and Language Therapist

“My husband and I have enjoyed hearing our children talk about their experiences learning about Calm and Alert in school. And we have LOVED seeing them practice their Calm and Alert skills at home. We feel fortunate that they have been exposed to this amazing program. Thank you!”
- Annie, parent and teacher

“Calm and Alert instruction helped students in my special education classroom experience relaxation! They really benefited from the way the curriculum links abstract visualization to concrete terms.”
- Erica, special education teacher

"Calm & Alert class has become a cornerstone for successful instruction in my kindergarten classroom.  Children learn how to be learners and the benefits reach to every corner of the classroom, across every minute of the school day."

- Jen, Kindergarten teacher
